Preparing for SXSW

My first time hearing of SXSW was when The Real World Austin came on MTV and the cast worked for SXSW. I thought it was pretty cool that such a big music festival took place right here in my home state of Texas. I knew I wanted to visit it one day. I finally got to visit for the first time a few years ago. I went on a day trip with a friend and just parked and walked around. The atmosphere was pretty dope. It gave me Bourbon Street/French Quarter vibes. I went again last year, for a day trip, and enjoyed myself again. There are so many free events to attend and some even include food and drinks. This is a great event that you can do on a budget. Below are some free and budget friendly events to consider during your SXSW experience. Also, check out my article about my last visit to Austin here.

SXSW Guest Pass: This pass gets you free access to select shows, events and giveaways.

Party with Fat Joe: This event is a private party for Hooch members only and includes your first drink for free. If you aren't a member of Hooch, or don't know what it is, then check out my article here and use my code to sign up.

Blacks at SXSW: This is a listing of black events happening during SXSW including a Wakanda Photoshoot, HBCU meetup, Hue Tour, Panelist and much more.

Snickers Social Eatery Events: These events include free Snickers themed meals and cocktails with RSVP. I attended this event last year and the meals and cocktails were amazing! I also met some really great people that I still keep in contact with to this day.

PMA Global Street Farm: Come experience delectable delights and conversations about people and ideas shaping food and culture in the world’s produce and floral industries.

There are so many things to take in at SXSW that it can be a bit difficult to navigate. Expect a ton of people. Expect parking to be a nightmare. Expect to not be able to use your Uber account (download another rideshare app ahead of time) in Austin. Most importantly, expect to have a great time! I
