Motherhood can be one of the greatest gifts and biggest responsibilities granted to a woman. That responsibility becomes even greater when you have to take it on alone. Sometimes that honor comes before you're able to finish pursuing the things you want to do, yet you push on because you have someone who is depending on you. You have someone who is looking up to you, and you realize that life is no longer just about you. You are now molding and shaping another life. For some single mothers going back for that bachelors degree seems like an impossible task. You have to work, take care of the house, take care of your child(ren), and try to take care of yourself at the same time. Oh, and not to mention school is expensive. The cost of going to school seems to be rising every day. One individual that I know is seeking to provide some aide to single mothers who are pursuing their bachelors degree. Jerrell Blackshire, or as we call him Koolaid lol, is determined to help ease the load. Rarely do you find an individual who is so willing to give so much of himself, even when he doesn't have much to give. Inspired by the life of his mother Selinda, he has put together a scholarship fund in the amount of $500 to give back in her name. The impact his mother made on his life shows through his character daily. If you are, or know of, a single mother who will be enrolled in college during the Spring 2017 semester please check out the scholarship details below.
The Selinda B.Thomas scholarship is now ready to be given out. This scholarship is available for a single mother pursuing her bachelors and the award will be in the amount of 500 dollars and will be given for the Spring 2017 semester. Since I am honoring my Mother with this scholarship, I thought it would be fitting that I would require the applicants to submit an essay about things that my Mother loved.
My Selinderella loved music and when I went to visit her, she would have the tv on the music channel and would be in there groovin in her chair while playing slot machine games on her tablet. She loved all music. She said she didn't like Lil Wayne but she loved to imitate him lol. I think she did like him though. Submit an essay telling me why you love music and how it impacts your life.
My Mama also had the gift of making people's day. There is no surprise where I get it from. While making surprise visits when she was in Dialysis, upon leaving, some of the techs would express to me how much they loved my Mama and how she would make them laugh while she was there despite her being in pain. She had a big heart. Submit an essay describing what making other people smile does for you.
My Mother loved my brothers and I in a way that i know i cant explain. She raised us to be strong men, to love others, and to be all that we set out to be. She was always there for us no matter what. There is no possible way i can even begin to imagine how much she loved us.Submit an essay telling me what your sons/daughters mean to you.
There is no GPA requirement for this scholarship nor do you have to major in a specific area. I just want you to be a good person. Send all essays to jerrell_blackshire@yahoo.com. Upon receiving essays, i will ask you to show proof of your classes. The person that i decide to give the scholarship to will be notified via email. In addition to this, if you just need help, shoot me an email and I will do what i can to help you out.
