Girl Scouts across the country have been learning entrepreneur skills for 101 years by selling cookies. Gone are the days when the girls would go door to door soliciting business from supportive neighbors, and now gone are the days when you have to sign your name on a piece of a paper indicating which flavors you would like to order. The girl scouts have now entered the digital world.
This move is monumental considering that the world is increasingly changing from a pen and paper society to a digital market. The Digital Cookie has made its way to North Texas as part of a National push to teach our girls business skills needed for 21st century work. For the first time North Texas residents can order from their favorite Girl Scout using their laptop, tablet or smart phone online.
My childhood favorite was the samoas cookie. The combination of caramel, coconut and chocolate was a combo I couldn't get enough of. The trefoil was a close second which is like a shortbread cookie pressed into the shape of the Girl Scout's logo. I've used the trefoil cookies in place of the usual cookies in banana pudding before and it was a hit. Recently I was able to try the Smores cookie and it left me wanting some more, and some more, and.....well.....you get the point.
Cookie sales begin January 12th and end February 25th. Which flavor will you choose? To celebrate the launch of the digital cookie the Girl Scouts will host a pop up at Klyde Warren Park January 12th from 2:30 to 4:00pm. Hear Girl Scout Troop Members speak about their goals for the season as well as get yummy samples of their cookies.
Special thanks to the Girl Scouts for sending me a box full of cookie goodness to kick off the celebration of their cookie sales this year.
