When you think of the ultimate wine experience many places may come to mind, but if Fredericksburg isn’t included in that thought, I’m here to change your mind. Fredericksburg is filled with beautiful and unique wineries to suit everyone’s taste making it a premiere destination for a couples trip, girls trip or solo trip for the ultimate wine connoisseur. Below are a few of the wineries that should be on your list of places to visit when you make your way to the Texas Wine Country.
Grape Creek Winery
Grape Creek Winery greats you with beautifully landscaped grounds to make you feel like you just took a step outside of Texas and into another country. Your experience at Grape Creek can be customized to personal tastings, a tasting with a tour of the estate or a private seated tasting. During the tasting I was able to try the Viognier, Rosé of Malbec, Cabernet Trois, Bellissimo and Pinot Grigio. The Viognier was easily my favorite with a balance of wildflowers and honey with peach and apricot.
The grounds feature a gift shop with cute wine accessories and an exclusive members only patio. When joining their wine club you will also receive special discounts.
Cicada Cellars
This family owned tasting room is located in Stonewall, TX (literally minutes from Fredericksburg). The interior will appeal to the modern minimalist with a dose of chic. If you don’t want to take a break from the heat, but continue with great wine tasting, then this is the place for you. It’s very intimate and ideal for couples or a group of friends to sit back and relax. Have some fun while enjoying your wine playing ping pong, darts or board games.
Pedernales Cellars
The beautiful landscaping is a theme that continues as you make your way to Pedernales. You will see beautiful flowers and views of hills in the distance that will put you in a state of relaxation. They offer full tours of the beautiful estate and customized wine tasting experiences.
While visiting Pedernales I highly recommend making sure the Over the Moon Rosé is on your list of wines to taste, and that you ask them to tell you the story of how this wine got its name. It was one of my favorite parts of the trip.
Kuhlman Cellars
Your wine tour will not be complete without taking a visit to Kuhlman Cellars. During their tour you will get a full experience with food pairings that have been scientifically paired to bring out the ultimate flavors of the wine. One of the pairings featured herbed almonds that I have not been able to stop thinking about since leaving this place. Luckily not only can you get the amazing wines, but you can also get the almonds (seriously they are that good). You can tell that the staff at Kuhlman are really into the science behind the wines which adds to your experience.
There are hundreds of wine experiences to choose from in Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas. These are places I have personally visited and recommend as you make your way through the city.
